Intellectual Disorder
Intellectual disability involves problems with general mental abilities that affect functioning in two areas: Intellectual functioning
(such as learning, problem solving, judgement). Adaptive functioning (activities of daily life such as communication and independent living).
The common types of intellectual disabilities include autism, Down syndrome, fragile x syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, and Prader-Willi syndrome.
Experts divide the types of cognitive impairment into four categories: mild intellectual disability, moderate intellectual disability, severe
intellectual disability, and profound intellectual disability.
